Canmore, Alberta – Where the mountains are high and the roots are deep.
Canmore is located in the Rocky Mountains, 81 km west of Calgary, near the southeast boundary of Banff National Park. It is known for its craggy summits the Three Sisters, Ha Ling Peak and Lady Macdonald. Canmore was established in 1884 as a coal mining town servicing the Canadian Pacific Railway Trains. DOWNTOWN:
South Canmore
Located on the valley floor, east of Main Street. This sought after area is close to town centre, making it walking distance to many amenities such as restaurants & pubs, shopping, parks, the community daycare and school, museums, super markets and the recreation centre. Beautiful biking and walking trails along Bow River are also easily accessible. Mostly residential, this area consists of single-family homes, duplexes and fourplexes.
Lions Park
Located just west of the downtown core; this is a mature well established neighbourhood. It is located in close proximity to the Lion’s Park, the high school and Skateboard Park. It is within walking distance of the trail system for convenient downtown access. Lion’s Park is primarily populated with single-family homes both new and old.
Larch
Slightly more west of Lions Park lays the mature neighbourhood of Larch consisting of a collection of cull-de- sacs that remain within walking distance of downtown. Located near the Bow River in close proximity to Larch Island and the Canmore Golf and Curling club. This area consists of mostly of older single-family homes dating back to the 1970’s.
Tee Pee Town
Located along Bow Valley Trail next to the Canmore Hospital. This neighbourhood presents with a lot of history consisting of houses dating back to the 1940’s. This up and coming neighbourhood is going through a transition and redevelopment phase. Many old single-family homes still exist with new construction underway. Most Lots zoned R2 and R4.
Town Centre
The heart of Canmore, need we say more. Central to everything Canmore has to offer including cafés, shops, dining, parks, museums and more. Many apartment style homes, townhouses, condos and a few single-family homes are available.
Spring Creek
This development is another community all of its own, located just off Main Street, northeast of South Canmore. This mountain village inspired community is nestled between Spring Creek and Policemen’s Creek. Its community consists of apartment condo’s including vacation rentals, townhomes and a retirement home amongst a hotel, convention centre, shops and restaurants.
NORTH SIDE OF THE VALLEY (The Sunny Side):
Cougar Creek/Riverstone
Located on the north side of the valley and TransCanada highway at the base of Grotto Mountain. A very family oriented neighbourhood with Elizabeth Rummel School within its boundaries. Homes date back to the 1980’s and 90’s. This area consists of many single-family homes with a few apartment style condos.
Elk Run
Offering plenty of sun, Elk Run is located north of the industrial area. It offers easy access to the highway, an off leash dog park and plenty amenities in the industrial area. It is configured of single family dwellings, townhomes, duplexes and condos.
Silvertip
Another one of Canmore’s hidden gem’s. Located east of the TransCanada highway. One of the highest locations in Canmore with stunning views overlooking the valley. Located at the doorstep of these homes are a network of trails and Silvertip Golf Course. Silvertip consists of many luxury townhomes, duplexes and large single-family homes with room for continued development.
Eagle Terrace
Located at the base of Mount Lady MacDonald between Cougar Creek and Silvertip. This area features access to many great hiking and biking trails. In close proximity are a convenience store, liquor store, café, restaurants and parks. This is another great sunny family friendly neighbourhood with many single family and town homes.
SOUTH SIDE OF THE VALLEY:
Hospital Hill
Just west of the Bow River Bridge. Canmore Hospital was located here back in the 1940’s, which is how it inherited its name. You can easily access the walking trails along the bow river with a short walk to downtown and all its amenities. It is configured of a mix of older and new construction welcoming mostly single-family homes and duplexes with a few low-rise apartments.
Prospect
Located in the southwest side of Canmore in close proximity to the Bow River. The three sisters walking trail takes you downtown with a short walk in minutes. Nearby you can find the Canmore Nordic Centre, Quarry Lake and an off leash dog park. This was the first development on the southwest of the Bow with some of the largest single-family homes originating from 1995.
Carey/Homesteads
Located on the west side of the Bow Valley this mature neighbourhood has beautiful landscaping surrounded by forested areas. In close proximity is the Canmore Nordic Centre, Quarry Lake and off leash dog park. With development starting in the mid 1990’s this community consists of half duplexes and some extravagant single-family homes which back onto the Bow River.
Peaks of Grassi
Another great family friendly neighbourhood built in the 1990’s. In close proximity is the Canmore Nordic Centre, Quarry Lake and off leash dog park. The area features great views, lots of wildlife sightings and a large network of trails. Peaks of Grassi is configured with both single family and town homes.
Quarry Pines
Located along the wildlife corridor, just above Quarry Lake and west of Peaks of Grassi. In close proximity is the Canmore Nordic Centre, Quarry Lake and off leash dog park. It is a short drive to spray lakes and has many walking and biking trails that lead to downtown for more of a lengthily excursion. Quarry Pines welcomes single-family homes, townhouses, half duplexes.
Rundleview
A southwest neighbourhood found near the Canmore Nordic Centre, located west of Quarry Pines. A quiet area to take in all nature has to offer. With stunning views this area features single family and town homes.
Three Sisters Resort
One of the newest development areas in Canmore that is currently booming with growth. It is the first development you encounter when entering Canmore coming from the east. It is tucked away in a peaceful forested area with plenty of wildlife. Within its boundaries are Stewart Creek Golf Course and a few amenities of its own. It features easy access to the highway with a short drive to downtown. Plenty of hiking and walking trails are available. Three Sisters has it all, condos, townhomes and single-family homes.
Banff
Is a resort town located in the Rocky Mountains within Banff National Park. It offers mountain living at its finest in a picture perfect mountain village. Single family, townhomes and condos are all within walking distance to town.
HAMLETS SURROUNDING CANMORE AND AREA
Exshaw is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8. Located approximately 90 kilometres west of downtown Calgary and 15 kilometres east of Canmore, Exshaw is situated within the Bow River valley north of the Bow River.
Lake Louise is a hamlet in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, known for its turquoise, glacier-fed lake ringed by high peaks and overlooked by a stately chateau.
Lac des Arcs is a hamlet in Alberta, within the Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8. It is located on the south side of the Bow River opposite the Hamlet of Exshaw. Highway 1 borders Lac des Arcs on the south.
Dead Man's Flats is a hamlet in Alberta within the Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8. A short drive to downtown Canmore, Dead Man’s was developed with family and community in mind.
Harvie Heights is a hamlet in Alberta, within the Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8. It is located within Alberta's Rockies on the Trans-Canada Highway approximately 4km northwest of Canmore and just outside the Banff National Park gates.
